Together for Akron Transition Team Shares Run of Show and Plans for Inclusivity Ahead of Swearing-In Ceremony

Akron, Ohio, Dec. 27, 2023 — Today, the Together For Akron Transition Team announced important updates for the Ceremonial Swearing-in and Community Celebration happening on January 6th. The Community Celebration has reached capacity and is no longer accepting registrations but the team is releasing a run of show for the Swearing-In Ceremony which is still open for more attendees. 

The ceremonial swearing-in will take place at EJ Thomas Performing Arts Hall, located at 198 Hill Street, starting at 1:00 PM. The event will feature speeches from local leaders and musical performances.

Run of show:

  • 12:00 PM: Doors Open

  • 1:00 PM: Performances by Hearts for Music & Akron Symphony Orchestra Gospel Choir

  • 1:45 PM: Presentation of Colors, Pledge, National Anthem, Prayer

  • 2:00 PM: Guest Remarks

  • 2:25 PM: Performance of "A Change is Gonna Come" by Carla Davis & Lauren Marsh

  • 2:30 PM: Swearing-In & Remarks by Mayor Shammas Malik

To promote inclusivity, the Accessibility Library will be present, providing sensory bags. Limited interpretation services will also be available, with 20 headsets each for Spanish and Nepali. For more information or to reserve these resources, contact Kelly McHood at kelly@togetherforakron.com.

Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis at EJ Thomas Parking Deck, Lot #27, and Lot #26 - North Campus Parking Decks. Traffic attendants will be on-site for assistance.

After the swearing-in, a Community Celebration will be held at House Three Thirty (532 W Market St.), which is now at full capacity and not accepting further registrations. Registered attendees will have access to parking in the adjacent deck. The celebration will feature refreshments, music, activities, and a chance for Mayor Malik to interact with the community. Attendees can expect additional offerings, including surprise performances.
