JAMES McHENRY, Sr. began his career with the City of Akron as a
seasonal Water Maintenance Worker I in Water Distribution. He became permanent on
September 14, 1967. JAMES was promoted on May 23, 1969 to a Water Maintenance Worker II.
He was promoted to his present position of Water Distribution Foreman on July 20, 1979.
JAMES graduated from North High School in June of 1967. He attended the
University of Akron and Kent State University. JAMES and his wife Pat have two daughters,
three sons, and five grandchildren. Two of his sons, Jason and Anthony, are also currently
working for the City of Akron as Operators for the Recycling Department. One of James'
favorite hobbies is drag racing. He has a drag race car that he races as well as displays
at car shows. JAMES is also an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns football team. He also
likes dart throwing.
JAMES supervises two maintenance crews, maintaining and patrolling the
Akron force mains, which transport all water from the Akron Water Supply Treatment Plant
to the Akron Water Distribution System. JAMES has shown an extraordinary level of
initiative and dedication in all of his work assignments. In addition, he volunteered to
be the Safety Coordinator beginning in June of 1997 and is responsible for safety training
and handling the safety needs of the employees. JAMES is a pleasant individual who is well
liked by his co-workers and supervisors.
JAMES is in charge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of
water mains, servicing valves, hydrants, curb and valve boxes, air releases, and related
appurtenances of the City Water Distribution System. His performance in his work is
exemplary and he has set a high standard for his successor.
