.
Her name is… Monica Williams

Her occupation is... Administration & Technology Team Leader in the Water Pollution Control Division or WPC.

She's been with the City for... 20 years. Monica started as a clerical intern while still a junior in high school.  She has worked in several different classifications and divisions since that time.

She has also worked in warehousing, and purchasing and receiving. She went back to college a few years after moving to WPC to finish a technology degree.  IMAGE: Monica Williams - click to enlargeIt was a smart move, because when WPC began reducing costs, she found herself working on computer systems.

Monica is the person who…oversees the computer systems, storeroom, and administrative functions of WPC. She also supervises the administrative and technology team that includes:

Engineering
Clerical
Computer programming
Safety
Storeroom
Planning & scheduling.

She is also the system administrator of the plant’s distributed control system which allows plant operators to start/stop pumps, open gates, turn equipment on and off, monitor parameters for EPA compliance, and a bunch of other things. She recently completed a project to upgrade the control system to the most recent technology available.

What does she enjoy most about the job? "I enjoy the opportunity to work with new technology.  We’re always looking for new ways to use it to improve our processes. We are very proud of our work."

Monica is also... an avid international traveler. She has spent time in 13 countries so far.  She will add three new ones to the list this fall when she revisits Thailand and also stops in Singapore, Bali and Hong Kong. If you could see her office, you’d notice the world map. She keeps it there to remind her, she says, of how much she still has left to see!

When she has time… Monica enjoys riding her motorcycle and quilting…although, not simultaneously.

Etc….Monica graduated from the University of Akron with, and you may have already guessed this, a degree in computer programming.
