Investigative Subdivision
A Deputy Chief commands the Investigative Subdivision. The Investigative Subdivision is responsible for investigating crimes, apprehending offenders, processing crime scenes, recovering stolen property and preparing cases for trial.
CRIMES AGAINST PERSONS/MAJOR CRIMES UNIT
The Crimes Against Persons Unit investigates homicides, felonious assaults, robberies, sexual assaults and other felonies. The unit predominately works day shift. The Major Crimes Unit works two shifts from 3pm until 7am and investigates all major felonies occurring between those hours.
SEXUAL ASSAULT KIT INITIATIVE (SAKI) UNIT
The SAKI Unit investigates cold case sexual assaults using newly obtained DNA and/or forensic evidence.
The SAKI Unit is a grant funded, community collaboration with the Summit County Prosecutors Office, Ohio BCI, Victim Assistance Program, and the Rape Crisis Center.

CRIMES AGAINST PROPERTY UNIT
(Including Burglary, Financial Crimes and Pawn)
The Crimes Against Property Unit investigates residential and commercial burglaries, major theft offenses, and financial and credit card crimes.
JUVENILE/AUTO THEFT/MISSING PERSONS UNIT
The Juvenile Bureau investigates incidents of child sexual abuse and neglect, serious crimes committed by and to juveniles, auto thefts, and missing persons.
CRIME SCENE UNIT
The Crime Scene Unit provides technical support at crime scenes, maintains criminal histories on all arrested persons and analyzes confiscated drugs.
POLYGRAPH UNIT
The Polygraph Unit assists members from the Akron Police Department, the Summit County Prosecutors Office and several other law enforcement agencies in conducting investigative, stipulated and pre-employment polygraph examinations.
NARCOTICS / STREET NARCOTICS UNIFORM DETAIL (SNUDS) / VICE
Captain commands the Narcotics/SNUDS/Vice Subdivision. The Narcotics/SNUDS/Vice Subdivision investigates complaints of possession and possession for sale of illegal narcotics, prostitution, gambling, pornography and liquor violations.
