Opportunity to Learn, Grow, and Develop – WE TRAIN! 

  • The City of Akron offers several opportunities to learn, grow and develop. Full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees are eligible to enroll in tuition-free classes at Stark State.   
  • Employees interested in pursuing their CDL licenses to advance can take advantage of opportunities with in-house training.   
  • Employees have the opportunity for hands-on training and mentorship that prepares them for the tests required to obtain various EPA certifications.  Employees are reimbursed for the cost of the EPA tests, upon passing the test.  
  • Newly hired Police Officers and Firefighter/Medics attend academies tuition-free while receiving full pay. New Firefighter/Medics attend paramedic school at no cost to the employee.  
  • Supervisor and Leadership training sessions are provided yearly for supervisors and city leaders.  Employees gain valuable skills and knowledge to utilize in developing their teams.
