Our Mission
The Engineering Bureau is responsible for the planning, designing and constructing of the public improvement projects of the City of Akron. Our goal is to produce high quality projects, on schedule and within budget. To do this, we must establish accurate project scopes and estimates, design for economy while maintaining high standards and clarity, and administer our construction contracts with efficient and effective procedures. While doing this, we must also maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, City Council, the administration, other City divisions, consulting engineers, utility company representatives, contractors, developers, suppliers and federal, state and municipal agencies. While accomplishing our mission, we are expected to maintain the highest level of ethics and professionalism.

The City of Akron has partnered with Bonfire Interactive to create a new procurement portal that will allow you to receive notifications of business opportunities and submit bids and proposals to the City of Akron digitally. Registration is easy and free.
ALL Invitations to Bid, Documents, Q&A, and Bid Submissions are done through Bonfire. Bid tabs and Awards are also publicly posted on Bonfire.
New & Current Vendors – Please be sure to complete the entire registration process paying special attention to vendor type if certified with the State of Ohio, commodity codes associated with your type of business or organization, and upload required documents: W-9 and E.E.O.

Minority Participation
Section 34.10 of the Codified Ordinance of the City of Akron, Ohio, 1993, requires that where a contractor intends to subcontract ten percent or more of the total value of the contract, 15 percent of the subcontracted demolition, construction, erection, alterations or repair of City buildings or improvements services shall be subcontracted to Minority Business Enterprises; seven percent of subcontracted equipment, supplies, materials, and services other than professional services procurements shall be subcontracted to Minority Business Enterprises; and five percent of the subcontracted professional services shall be subcontracted to Minority Business Enterprises. Unless the contractor obtains a waiver from the Contract Compliance Officer, the contractor shall show to the satisfaction of the Contract Compliance Officer that these requirements will be met before any subcontracts which, when added to all previously approved and all other currently proposed subcontracts, exceed ten percent of the value of the contract.
The subcontract shall not be executed until the City Engineer has approved the above mentioned list of subcontractors.
The following form is to be completed and submitted prior to award of the contract, in accordance with Section 34.10 of the Codified Ordinance of the City of Akron:
Minority Business Enterprise/Participation Documentation (applicable when 10 percent or more of the bid amount will be subcontracted)
