Mayor Malik Designates Mason Park Community Center as a Warming Center on Saturday
Summit Lake Community Center will be closed for private events on Saturday
Akron, Ohio, Jan. 18, 2024 — Today, Mayor Malik is announcing the City of Akron will extend hours at Mason Park Community Center (700 E. Exchange St.) on Saturday, Jan. 20 to serve as a warming center from 8am-7pm. Summit Lake Community Center is currently serving as a warming center through Friday, January 19. All other City of Akron community centers will be open during their normal business hours.
“Summit Lake Community Center has several private events scheduled for Saturday, so we’ve made the decision to open up Mason Park Community Center as a dedicated warming center in its place,” said Mayor Malik. “Temperatures are expected to rise following Saturday, but we will continue to monitor and adjust as needed. I encourage anyone in need to please utilize the warming center.”
Unless otherwise specified, all centers will return to normal business hours starting Sunday, January 21.
The Emergency Overnight Shelter located at 111 East Voris St. will be open through Monday, Jan. 22. The shelter operates between 7pm and 8am.
